What it is
A manual technique that places pigment in fine, individual strokes designed to sit alongside your own brow hairs. It suits people who want definition that reads as hair rather than as make-up.
How it works
Your brow shape is mapped to your features and agreed before any pigment is used. Strokes are then placed by hand in the direction your hair naturally grows. A touch-up at around four weeks refines the healed result — it is part of the process, not a correction.
Good fit for
- Sparse-looking brows where a natural, hair-like finish is the goal
- Anyone who currently pencils in their brows daily
- Normal to dry skin, which tends to hold crisp strokes best
Suitability is assessed individually at consultation. Some treatments are not appropriate for everyone.
Your treatment journey
- Consultation covering shape, colour, your daily look and anything in your medical history that affects suitability.
- Shape and colour mapped and agreed with you before any pigment is used.
- The appointment itself, with numbing applied throughout.
- Healing over four to six weeks, during which the colour changes considerably.
- A touch-up appointment at around four weeks to refine the healed result.
Results and what to expect
Colour is much darker for the first week, then flakes and lightens before settling at around four to six weeks. Longevity varies with skin type, sun exposure and skincare — oily skin tends to soften strokes faster. Most people return for a refresh within twelve to eighteen months.
Safety and common effects
Most people notice some of the following. They are temporary and expected rather than a problem:
- Swelling and tenderness for one to three days
- Colour appearing much darker and sharper than the final result for the first week
- Flaking and patchiness between days five and ten
- A period around week two to three where the colour looks too light before it settles

Aftercare
Keep brows dry for the period your practitioner specifies, do not pick flaking, no swimming, saunas or heavy sweating, and no sun on the area while healing.

Common questions
How long does it last?
Typically twelve to eighteen months before a refresh, though this varies with skin type, sun exposure and the skincare you use. Oily skin generally holds strokes for less time.
Is the touch-up included?
The four-week touch-up is priced separately. Confirm what is included when you book — the touch-up prices are listed on the price page.
Does it hurt?
Numbing is used throughout. Most people describe a scratching sensation rather than sharp pain.
Why do my brows look so dark at first?
That is normal and expected. The colour softens considerably as the surface heals and flakes, usually settling by week four to six.
Is microblading or nano brows better for me?
It depends largely on your skin. Oily skin often holds nano brows better than microblading. Your practitioner will advise at consultation.
Can I have it over existing permanent make-up?
Sometimes, but old work must be assessed first. Bring photographs or come in for a consultation before booking.
What if I do not like the shape?
The shape is drawn and agreed with you before any pigment is used. Nothing begins until you are happy with it.
